For cross-country skiing enthusiasts, Ruka and Kuusamo offer over 500 km of groomed trails completely free of charge! The skiing season lasts from October to April, and there are skiing trails to suit every taste and skill level! The lovely trail cafés with their reindeer and huskies are the highlight of the family’s skiing trip!
And at the end of the day, you return to the cottage — just a few minutes away — to relax in your own sauna, where the warmth removes the cold and the rush.

Ruka and Kuusamo have husky farms that offer these wonderful trips ranging from short rides of a few kilometers to overnight safaris. In Kuusamo, you can also get to know reindeer! In summer, reindeer wander freely in nature and on roads, and you’ll often see them in your cottage’s yard. In summer, you can visit reindeer farms, and in winter, various reindeer experiences provide pleasant entertainment for tourists. Have you ridden a reindeer sled or tried reindeer yoga? Feeding the reindeer is wonderful, give it a try!
Seeing the northern lights cannot be guaranteed, but in Ruka-Kuusamo the chances are good. From autumn to early April, the dark Arctic night provides the opportunity to see northern lights dancing in various colors. Guided tours take you to the best viewing spots far from light pollution — by snowshoe, snowmobile, or car. All of our accommodations also offer the possibility to see the northern lights, right in your own backyard!
